Although I stress to my students that there is no such thing as perfection in art class, they still work so hard to achieve it. Unfortunately, in their quest to perfection they often find themselves short of their OWN expectations. Every year I begin our lesson with the "The Dot" by Peter H. Reynolds. It helps me set the tone of my art class. I would love to provide my classroom with more art books, like "The Dot", promoting growth mindset.
My goal is to help my students work through their anxiety of creating art.
Along with books on growth mindset, my students would benefit from having Picasso Tiles. My students all have experience with the typical pencil and paper artwork. However, I would like for them to be more hands on with their creations. These tiles are great for my more active friends. Not only can students create sculptural work, they can create still-life too. This is also a great opportunity for me to do STEAM projects.
With 45-minute classes that I see every 7 days, I want to create a fun learning experience for all my students. These items will allow me to work towards that goal. I hope these items will help them be engaged and confident in their art-making process!
