I am requesting a variety of snacks that will last throughout the school year, and will provide a daily mid morning snack to each student. Specifically, the funding received will purchase small bags of snack crackers like Cheez-Its, granola bars, pretzels and graham crackers. Each day, students will be provided a choice of two options. I have selected a variety of things in hopes of most of the time being able to offer something that every student will like. Currently, students come in at 8:05 and do not have lunch until 1pm, with a lot of instruction inbetween. This snack will provide a needed break, as well as sustenance to get them through the morning. In addition, most students receive free lunch and breakfast, but are not offered much choice. At times, students prefer to not eat than to eat something they deem as yucky. These snacks will provide one more opportunity to choose what they would like to eat. Concentration on a hungry stomach is not easy to accomplish and these snacks will stave off hunger. Studies show that students that are well fed perform better in school. In addition, feeding children snacks supports a positive classroom, and supports the building of positive relationships between teachers and students.
