I personally am more open to participation when I'm comfortable, so flexible seating seems obvious for a relaxed setting to learn and discuss. We use cooperative learning in small groups when strengthening literary skills or working on novels in my reading classroom.
Who wants to sit in a hard seat attached to a desk? Not me! I'm a mover. It helps me focus. I'm opting to purchase rolling chairs for the tables my school has provided. I utilize some tall tables (that my dad made me) for students to stand at or use stools with, or sit at other flexible seating I've purchased prior. Life's always a little sweeter when we get to make choices. A warm learning atmosphere with options is the goal!
