The school I teach at has a population where 90% of our students receive free or reduced lunch. Many of my students come from homes where one or both parents are not around and they are being raised by other family members. We have several students who are homeless or in foster care.
Many of my students come to class on a daily basis without the basic school supplies for the day, pencil and paper. The majority of my students come to school on a daily basis and try their best no matter what their situations are at home. They know that for the 8 hours they are here they are safe and that someone cares about them.
