My students attend a high-poverty high school on the outskirts of an inner city. They are all identified with some sort of disability and are being served by the special education department in a resource (small-group) setting. Some are following the Occupational Course of Study (OCS) which is vocationally based and offers functional career training as well as academics. They are, without a doubt, 21st century learners--they are connected technologically at all times and are not engaged by the simple overhead or PowerPoint presentation anymore.
