My students are something to admire. At 14 years of age, and without the necessary resources, my ELLs (English Language Learners) accomplish more in a day than most adults I know, including myself. They try, try, and try some more until they succeed, all the while remaining positive, and holding jobs to support their families. They have overcome more in their lives than most have to, and still, they remain positive for their futures. My classroom is the definition of a melting pot. I have all different levels of readers and writers. It is my job to show them that they CAN read, they CAN write, and they CAN learn. Most have been beaten down so much by circumstance, they don't really believe they can, or should be able to, learn. I want to prove to them the opposite is true, and provide the resources to expand their thinking and abilities.
