My students are 4th and 5th graders and they bring to the class a slew of different personalities. Some are reserved and don't say much, others are outspoken and rambunctious, while others are in between those two extremes. However, at the end of the day, they are still children and they want to be heard. They all like to share their ideas, their jokes, their likes, and dislikes. Although they all bring something different to the classroom, they all come from the same type of background; a low socioeconomic one. Some come in wearing the same clothes they wore the day before, others look forward to breakfast every morning, others stay on campus until 6PM because their parent(s) cannot/will not pick them up before that time.
Yet, they all know that when they come to school everyone is there to help as much as we can. If they want to talk, anyone on campus is more than willing to listen and help. It is a campus that thrives on being welcoming and supportive anyway they can.
