My students are five and six year old children living in central Florida. They come from low-income, many living in poverty and some considered homeless. Our elementary school is a public school that is a Title 1 school due to the high population that qualify for free or reduced lunch. Some of the children move in and out of the district schools several times a year depending on their living conditions. A very large number of children are living with a single parent or being raised by a grandparent.
Our children are very needy and need a lot of attention in other areas than academics. It is a challenging to teach these children but it is very rewarding when you see their growth during the school year.
