Our busy classroom of 34 students is one of active learning, inquiry based thinking projects, and real life learning. We have a wonderful mixed community of students from all over the world. With ten different languages spoken in my classroom alone, these students' world view is full of experiences that we work to incorporate into our "day family".
This group of ten and eleven year olds come to school excited, calling out "what are we doing today?" Their curiosity and enthusiasm often leads our classroom lessons into relevant projects that result in real life applications. For example, our study of plants has now lead us to collaborate with a doctorate student from Monterey and 4th graders from Waimea, Hawaii via Skype. We are learning the effects of invasive plants on various environments around the world, and what we can do locally.
Our school is a safe and exciting place to learn. Our parents help to create a true sense of community through the events they coordinate.
