Currently, my students don't have available to them the simple classroom equipment that most music classes have. These instruments will give more of a variety of ways for them to learn rhythms and melodies outside of drumming on tables and walls and singing without accompaniment.
For example, the alto xylophone will add opportunities for the students to begin playing simple and broken borduns, improvising on a pentatonic scale and will add musical accompaniment to their weekly activities. The rhythm set will allow us to add un-pitched percussion to our songs that are in each lesson; it gives them an opportunity to create their own rhythmic pattern and add it to the music using the instruments rather than only being able to clap or drum on a table/desk with their hands. The Boom Whackers will add melodic voice to our songs and activities and are much easier to use for the younger students. Because there are so many of them, it gives more students an opportunity to participate with instruments each week.
