My Students: Do you remember taking math in middle school and your teacher just telling you the steps to answer the questions and then expect you to instantly remember and understand perfectly how to apply what you've been told? Common Core has changed that dynamic. Students now need the right tools to help them be persistent in problem solving and to make sense of the mathematics around them. We need a large coordinate plane white board to help us strategically learn how to graph linear equations.
My students are in middle school and are in an area of about 78% at or below the poverty line. Many of them have free or reduced meals during the school day. They love to share what they've done and appreciate any and all materials given to them to use. We are located in a city school district where budgets are extremely tight and materials, especially as Common Core Standards are being implemented, are hard to obtain.
