Right now, my ESL classroom looks like it is from the 1970s! Everything in the office is outdated. Because my room is not a traditional classroom and I provide small instructional groups for English Language Learners, I am left out when my school receives new, updated furniture and supplies.
My classroom is located in the basement, so we are in the Land of the Forgotten! I am requesting a white board kidney-shaped table and 6 new chairs for my room. I want my students to be able to participate in guided reading groups, feel excited about learning and make connections with pictures and vocabulary. Some of my students are new to the country and need to draw pictures during reading to explain their thinking. Because my students speak Haitian Creole, Spanish or Vietnamese as their first language, they sometimes do not have the language to express themselves yet. A white board table will create excitement in my room, and allow my students to access the curriculum through drawing pictures.
