First Grade is fun! Many students entering class this year do not have a well developed range of fine motor skills. Students spent much of their kindergarten year, if not all of it, on computers. Many were pulled from preschool in spring of 2020, and this may be their first time in formal school. They missed out on cutting, gluing, tracing, and learning how to write their letters and numbers! Many do not have the muscle development to handle these tools and quickly become tired when holding a pencil.
Writing and literacy are critically linked! I would like to focus on developing letter recognition through tactile manipulatives. I also want to strengthen motor skills through engaging literacy art project! My students are digitally savvy, but need to develop and hone their creativity, writing skills, social skills and letter recognition.
The materials I am requesting will be used to diversify lessons in order to meet students at their ability and to keep learning inspiring and engaging!
