I am requesting funding to become a 200-hr SEL/Wellness Yoga Teacher through Breathe 4 Change. Over my 15 year teaching career, I have seen a growing need for both students and teaching professionals to learn how to overcome their struggles outside of the classroom in order to flourish inside of the classroom. Over the course of the pandemic the mental health of students, teachers, and parents have been affected in ways that we will deal with for years. Now that students are back in the classroom we are seeing even more cases of student depression, suicidal ideation, drug use, and discipline issues in our schools.
This training would allow me to teach students how to face adversity through yoga and mindfulness in order to be more successful in the classroom. With this specialized training through Breathe 4 Change, I would like to teach students, teachers, and administration ways to cope with every day life through yoga and mindfulness classes in our charter school system.
