The items within this project are all chosen to increase mastery within my biology classroom. With my project based teaching model, students need a lot of craft supplies in order to ensure their completion.
Biology should be an exciting class! I like to mimic that excitement with my classroom environment. By utilizing these supplies to create interactive biology posters, students will be constantly surrounded by exciting and stimulating content matter. As well as providing a colorful and vibrant classroom, these supplies can be used during a multitude of my instructional strategies including whiteboard races, gallery walks, and anchor charts. More specifically the markers will be utilized during whiteboard formative assessments in which students have the chance to go public with their thinking in a more comfortable way. Post-it pads will be used to create anchor charts during concept introductions for students to create content maps and connect the learning objectives in a visual way. It is always important to showcase student work however it is difficult to preserve student work. The laminator will allow for students whose work ends up on the "Nobel Prize" wall to have their work remain safe from vandalism. All student work can be organized in the cart for safe keeping as well as easy submission of assignments and late work. Lastly, a small assortment of healthy snacks has been added to the project. Hunger and homelessness is a serious problem amongst our population of students. By having snacks on hand I will have the opportunity to provide a small pick me up for those students whose hunger affects their coursework. All of these items together will provide my classroom with the foundations for success.
