My students with intellectual disabilities learn new concepts best when they have opportunities for hands-on explicit instruction. Using the LEGO WeDo curriculum allows my high school students to experience STEM, Computer Science, teamwork in an engaging environment. While my students may have disabilities, they have career goals and aspirations. Several students want to develop video games and smartphone apps. Many students are planning to repair computer, tablets, & smartphone devices. Two students would like to be animators for Disney and another wants to be a filmmaker. Exposing and engaging my students in technology and computer science fundamentals helps them get closer to realizing their dreams. Students with disabilities are capable of learning sophisticated concepts when presented in various modalities and barriers to limited expectations are gone!
