My students are so full of scientific potential that it is my honor to struggle with them and see how they use their creativity to solve simple and complex problems. Here is an example, I was teaching how energy transforms from one kind of energy to another kind but my examples were not having the impact I wanted, when an empty handed student said:
-Can I borrow this water bottle?
-Now, can I use this sink cover as a ramp?
He held the bottle at the top of the ramp and said:
This bottle is an example of potential energy only because it is static. However,if I let it go down the ramp( and he did) it will accelerate very fast transforming all that potential energy into kinetic energy. I was so impressed by how such a simple demonstration delivered the message so effectively. If this is what they can do empty handed, I wonder what they could do with an electrophoresis machine or a spectrophotometer !
