"You are now entering an early education classroom. If our noise level seems too loud, please remember we are learning to communicate with those around us. If our furniture seems too small, please remember we are learning how we fit in in this world. If our room seem too messy, please remember we are learning important skills through exploring and manipulating our environment. If our attention seems too unfocused, please remember we are curious and learning is exciting. Above all, please remember we are four and five years old, and we ARE learning. Our work is play, and we are great at our job! Education does not happen without interaction, emotion, and enthusiasm, so please enter with a smile and join the fun!"
This message hangs outside my classroom, and is a perfect description of my class. They might be small students in a small space, but big learning takes place there. Through play, they are building a foundation of skills they will need throughout the rest of their lives.
