The use of calculators is almost a daily activity in my classroom, especially in math. The calculators allow students to practice complete assignments and assessments effectively, as well as provide an easy way to accurately check their calculations as they work through the steps for their problems. When something in their answers goes wrong, students are keen on coming on me to solve and/or work the step(s) out for them. Even though they are great about trying on their own, it is distracting for many students who struggle with focusing and it causes them to miss out on important instruction in my small group. I want to build student independence as well as academic skills. With the use of a Chromebook in class, students will be able to avoid many of these problems by using math websites, online tutorials, and apps that will increase many of the foundational skills they are lacking!
By donating to our class project, you will not only help to improve and increase my students' independence, focus, and perseverance, but you will also ultimately help to increase their academic achievement and love of learning.
My students will be able to focus on the academic content and process, versus being only concerned with whether or not their answers are going to work or not. In this world of ever-evolving technology, any exposure with updated technology will increase their math and technology literacy, but I believe it will increase their desire to learn!
