As part of their water management and conservation unit, my students will have the opportunity to participate in both in-school and field trip activities facilitated by local experts. In their own classroom, students will be able to test water samples from local sources and study the impact of water pollution on their community. they will be able to engage an expert environment educator in discussions of serious concern to them.
On board the sailing classroom, leaving from a port close to school, students will explore the importance of the river to their local community and be able to make valuable connections to literature they are reading and see history come alive. They will have the opportunity to examine live aquatic species, test water quality and learn the skills of sailing a sloop.
This exhilarating experience can never be replicated in the classroom and will have a lasting effect upon our students.
