Stick to it! encourages perseverance. My young students have difficulty maintaining attention and staying on task. They are energetic and enthusiastic coming to school eager to learn, but, their mental stamina needs to be increased for them to meet expectations. Developmentally their brains and bodies need frequent breaks. One way to develop mental stamina and and enhance focus is to use a variety of teaching techniques to reach each child. By using movement and music breaks throughout the day, I plan for each student's learning style considering multiple intelligence theory. I can integrate many academic concepts while the children are participating in these breaks. My student have been selected to be in a smaller learning community called Scholastic Academy. It is "pre-gifted" program for children in poverty. The population is very diverse with families from many different ethnic groups.Music is universal. It can break cultural barriers to get their families invested and involved.
