I teach Transitional Kindergarten so most of my students are four years old, just turning five. They are the youngest on campus, but possibly the most excited ones here! While they love orally sharing or acting out stories, one of the big challenges in class has been putting their fabulous stories to paper. Some of the children can become frustrated when others do not know what their drawings depict. Sometimes these students may resort to drawing/writing stories about what they know they can "draw" successfully. I have some students who always write stories about rainbows or trucks. It's what they are comfortable drawing and they feel confident because of it.
We are a high performing school in a high performing district, but not all of our families are well-off. We are the only Title 1 school in the district and we have many children on free/reduced lunch and a pretty significant ESL population. Many in my clas
