My project involves materials that will help create a successful self-contained classroom for deaf and hard-of-hearing middle-school students. A variety of places for printed English, such as a mobile white board and chart paper will allow my students opportunities to have English all around the room.
My students need supplementary materials in math, reading and writing that will address gaps in knowledge. The teacher materials at lower grade levels will give them opportunities to gain access to materials to address foundational building blocks necessary to meet grade-level requirements.
My students get confused with terms such as city, state, country, continent and planet and the maps will provide an on-going way to reinforce these skills.
Finally, the books will allow us to develop reading skills through the use of graphic novels and high-interest, low-level readers.
