My students are 4-6 years old and REALLY struggle to sit still all day! We have an extremely large amount of content to get through in Kindergarten and it requires a lot of direct instruction. Students are moved from their typical table/chair to the carpet area several times a day to help them move their bodies in between lessons. We do movement such as dances/songs/exercises, called “brain breaks," to help with getting our wiggles out throughout the day.
As many of my students contend ADHD, other special needs, and learning challenges, I need more options in my classroom to help students sit comfortably and safely so they can be productive and attentive and achieve to their greatest potential.
I am requesting various seating options for my classroom such as wobble stools, padded floor seats, yoga/stability balls, wiggle seats to both help student with attention difficulties as well as to simply giving my students an option of where/how to sit while learning in my classroom. A lot of students now a days like to stand, lay down, sit on the floor etc. while working and don't always benefit from or prefer sitting at a conventional table/chair. This is currently the only option they have in my classroom. I trialed this flexible seating idea last year in my classroom with yoga mats and a standing table and the students LOVED them! I'm excited to hopefully add a lot more options this year to my classroom through the help of this project.
