Flexible seating provides students choice and comfort in the classroom without sacrificing classroom management. Flexible seating can enhance student participation and focus by increasing their comfort and decreasing their tendency to become off task. I have specifically chosen stability exercise balls, inflatable wobble cushions, and portable laptop desks because I feel that these items will best suit the needs of my students.
Recently, I introduced 3 stability balls into my classrooms and found that students were very excited about their integration into the room - I can't wait to bring more into the class.
I hope this project is successful and I can bring even more and new flexible seating options to my classrooms. Like any high school students, my English Language Learners often find themselves restless in their seats. I have found the introduction of the few stability balls into the room to be an amazingly satisfactory classroom addition. Not only do students rotate to different stations quicker in an effort to get the ball as their seat, I have found that they genuinely seem happier to be in that seat than the traditional hard seat.
