My students learn best through hands-on activities that provide highly-engaging opportunities to interact with the curriculum. Each of the students in my classroom has special needs, and I am passionate about creating lessons that allow them to be successful scholars despite the challenges that they face. Providing them with a variety of rigorous STEM based activities not only allows them to develop critical higher-level thinking skills, it allows them to understand that they are capable young adults with much to offer the communities in which they live. My students are highly successful when participating in STEM based lessons, with particular interest ranging from coding, engineering, earth sciences, and mechanics. For this reason, I have carefully selected items, such as the coding robot and microscope kits, that will both meet grade level standards and foster their growth as successful STEM learners. Additionally, I have included items that will provide exciting new ways to teach lessons, through the use of black light glow-writing. I have also included some alternative seating options to help those students who have difficulty maintaining focus in traditional seating throughout the day.
