I teach both Texas and U.S. History to middle school students in East Dallas. About 79% of the school population identifies as Hispanic and around 83% of the school population receives free lunch. I teach 45 8th Grade students and 70 7th Grade students. Robert T. Hill is also home to several students who are refugees or immigrants. Students in my class originate from Mexico, Guatemala, Liberia, Congo, Somalia, Syria, Cambodia, and Thailand. My goal for the class is teach students not only about the history of their state and country but teach them ways in which they can get involved with local government, community action groups, and other social action groups that they affiliate with or passionate about.
In addition I also assist in coaching our middle school debate team which consists of 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade students. Our team won a debate award in a match on November 2017, the first in the school's history.
