My class of inclusion students struggle to make gains in reading fluency. It is important to engage them in positive ways and to make reading more exciting. Our school is in a very rural area and my students do not have access to much technology or programs that help to encourage their love of reading and to increase their fluency as readers. I would like to have additional technology that allows them to practice fluency in different ways-through music, poetry, stories and self-recording.
Struggling readers benefit from listening to other readers read, and from listening to themselves read. They need iPads to access recording and listening to increase reading fluency and make it exciting and fun.
Students who practice reading fluency increase their ability to understand what they read and build their confidence as readers. Using technology to encourage my students to have fun while learning and building their confidence in fluency, that's the spark that will make them lifelong readers.
