We are diverse, inner city school community. My K-5th grade art students are enthusiastic, ambitious, engaged, and highly expressive. The art program at our school is fairly new, and although we live in a city with a heavy focus on the arts, many students are just beginning to build their art experience.
My students are creative, strong thinkers who are eager to rise to a challenge. Although making art can be scary, my students are courageous and gain confidence when they accomplish something they didn't know they could do. Art class gives them the opportunity to blend body, mind, and spirit. It allows them space to use imagination and spatial thinking to solve problems; to persevere, and to follow a process from beginning to end. My students make amazing art.
