Being an Exceptional Children's Educator has a very special place in my heart. My students have a myriad of battles that occur physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially. They possess the resilience to work hard and overcome those battles to be successful in the classroom every day. When I have an opportunity to work with them one-on-one or in a small group, I can see the potential they have to grow and prosper and it strikes a never-ending fire in my heart to support and encourage their growth any way that I can.
The opportunity to have flexible seating within my classroom would increase the motivation my students have for learning because it would give them the opportunity to choose how they want to focus their additional energy they may have while still concentrating on the lesson being taught and remaining on task with their independent work. Due to the extent of the disabilities my students have, many of them also have difficulties sitting in standard desk chairs that are currently provided to them. The flexible seating would also be used to help strengthen the gross motor skills for some of my students and provide opportunities to work on balance, coordination, and accurate posture. These chair balls will be a great addition to the learning environment of my classroom and will provide a optimal means of growth in all areas targeted.
