My 643 students are playful, mischievous and brimming full of potential. They love to sing and make music. You should see their faces light up when they perform! I see it bring hope and joy to the whole community. They are made up of various ethnic backgrounds (local and military) but all share the desire to become excellent musicians. It's always amazing to me that often times, students who have a hard time in their homeroom class, excel in music. Not everyone has the same affinity for academics but to give them an opportunity to be told, "Good job" or to simply be noticed in a positive light is a precious gift of self-esteem that they might not get to experience. With all of the education initiatives coming down to improve Language Arts Literacy and Math, I'm blessed to be able to be an outlet for creativity and improvisation that might otherwise become lost in the rigor of the work students are now expected to do.
