I teach second grade in a very low income school where all the children receive free lunches. We are a Title One school and most of the children are raised by grandparents or live in foster homes. All these students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds. Over 99% of the student body is eligible for free lunch and over 99% receive public assistance. These factors come together and place our children at a huge disadvantage, but we are committed to providing these students with a rigorous academic program.
