Our school of roughly 1000 middle school students serves 6, 7, and 8th graders and is located in a residential community in East Texas. We have quite a lot of diversity, both economic and ethnic; serving students who live in half million dollar houses, and others living with multiple families sharing a 2 bedroom apartment.
Despite the hardships that some of our students face, they are eager and enthusiastic. Many of our students do not speak English in their homes, and even as middle schoolers are asked to be the translators for the adults in their families.
