Flexible seating offers students greater opportunities to make choices that support their learning. As eighth graders, my students benefit from taking ownership of their needs as they prepare to transition to high school. Each child learns in his or her own way and flexible seating is a direct response to that need by providing them with options.
Being comfortable while learning helps students become immersed in the task. The portable desks and chairs selected will help students find the methods that work best for them. Throughout the day, my students remain in traditional seating for most lessons. Providing this change during independent tasks, such as writing and even more so, reading, gives students a feeling of unwinding that turns this time into a treat.
Choosing a quiet section with a good book will help my students focus, be accountable for their learning, and offer the flexibility they need to succeed.
