The ability to read is the most important skill a child will gain in first grade. In order to be proficient in any subject, you must be able to read. My first graders have an excitement towards reading and a passion for learning. We are a school with a student population of over 70% that are economically disadvantaged. A large amount of our students go home to tough situations, but you would never know by looking at them. They may not have had breakfast that morning, but come in with a smile and are ready to learn everyday. My students are unstoppable. They have inspired me to get more engaging and hands-on materials to support their drive and sustain their efforts in learning.
