My second grade students love to be hands-on, creative, and active. This kind of learning generates excitement and moves our curriculum from a worksheet atmosphere into a world of dynamic exploration. With this approach, the young minds in my classroom can make strong connections to school while experiencing the joy of learning! My upper grade art students (who join our classroom in the spring for a before school Art Club) bring with them a passion for expressing their feelings, ideas, and opinions through discussion, drawing, writing, and watercolor paints. This kind of artistic communication creates an awakening in the minds of these young students that the world of learning is alive with so much more than just scores on sheets of papers. They begin to participate in a new way, in a world layered with interactions, communication, and expressions!
