My students want to succeed in life. Unfortunately, they are underprivileged and don't have the tools at home to reach all their potential. At times, they lose the drive to learn because they feel there is no hope for them to compete with their peers. I teach the kids who are transported in from their lower income housing neighborhoods. They are surrounded by peers who come from high socio-economic status households and who have all the tools needed at home to succeed. It is quite frustrating for my students to watch their peers excel while they feel left behind due to their economic disadvantage. I have the same eighteen 8th graders for two periods a day. They have me for their regular English class and their reading elective class. The school provides a strong reading program for them, but they need the tools to help them with their writing and learning how to use new technology.
