Social Studies is meant to be experienced and not just passively learned. I love to bring in hands-on learning that incorporates creativity, art, and experience. Every time I assign a research paper, I also assign a creation to accompany it--whether it is an artifact or a board game. My high school students often miss the opportunity to build, design, and create and engagement is increased when we do.
We will make 3-d models, dioramas, interactive pieces and use photography. The students love to build and create and, with these supplies, they will have the opportunity.
