My students attend a Title 1 school on eastern Long Island, NY. Our student population is highly diverse in cultural background, socio-economic status, and academic abilities. The majority of my students are English Language Learners, many of whom moved to the United States when they were very young. Although students' individual language development and reading and writing skills vary greatly, all of my students have a genuine interest in literacy and are eager to learn! They enjoy listening to read alouds, participating in reader's theater, and reciting and creating poetry. Students love authoring and illustrating their own writing pieces and look forward to sharing their work with their classmates, families, and other staff at our school.
