I teach a group of 25 eager to learn Kindergarten students. These students are from low income families. They have a hunger for learning and thirst for literacy. About 80% of them eat free breakfast and lunch at school. I teach in a needs of improvement year 5 school. My class is mostly Hispanic students. Most of them are away from their parents for the first time and don't understand English. It is a very difficult transition for them to come to school for the first time where the teacher is speaking a language that is foreign to them.
