My students are from low income families that speak little or no english. They aren't blessed with a lot and as a result don't get to read at home as often as they should. With a lack of books or a lack of parental time to read to them; they LOVE the time we spend reading in class!! Students learn language by listening, but unfortunately my class does not have a listening center. By having a listening center my students will have the opportunity to increase their fluency rate, their desire to read, and practice their own reading skills. In addition, it will inspire their ability to imagine. A listening center would certainly help keep my students excited about reading and at the same time expose them to the joy of hearing good literature!
