The mission of the project is to provide a safe hands-on learning environment for students, build community partnerships, enhance the beauty of our school and surrounding neighborhood, to educate students on healthy food options, and increase student empowerment by growing and cooking their own food.
The materials requested in this project are to supply students with the tools needed to grow and maintain our new garden. Garden beds have been donated. We are requesting tools such as gloves, shovels, trellises, planters, stakes, and seed starting materials to get the garden off the ground. Garden produce will be used for after school programming on cooking plant-based foods, summer programming for students and partners in the area in the topics of environmental sustainability and wellness, and providing food samples to students during the school year. We have a future goal to incorporate programs for school families on disease prevention.
The garden will be used to grow vegetables, herbs, pollinating perennials and perennial fruits. The project also seeks to be a refuge for students and staff.
