As a special education teacher, my motto has always been to give children every opportunity to participate in their general education classroom activities. I have been successful in most areas, but not as much during their general education literacy circles and discussions.
By providing my students with iPods and headphones, I can purchase them audio books through Audible and use the school library for the paper books for which they can listen to and follow along in my classroom, and go back to their general education classrooms to participate in literary discussions, activities, and book reports, right alongside their general education peers.
