My Transitional Kindergarten (TK) students have been given the gift of time! All will have turned 5 between September 2nd and December 2nd! In years past, they would have all been placed in Kindergarten but, recent California law gives children at this age one more year to be developmentally -physically, social-emotionally ready for the academic rigors of Kindergarten. The school is 95% latino and 98% of the student body qualify for free or deduced lunch. The school is surrounded by many apartment buildings and hotels. Despite, these challenges, our school raised their API score to 800...Go Mountain Lions!!! My TK students are brilliant! They are making academic progress - learning letters and sounds, understanding numbers and quantities at a much faster pace than many of our Kindergarten students. They love school and they love learning. But, what inspires me the most about them is that they just will NOT give up!
