As a minority teacher, I have realized the importance of seeing characters similar to myself in novels. My students are a unique and diverse group who would greatly benefit from seeing a variety of different characters. I just need your help in getting these books in their hands!
Your donation will help my students by encouraging them to read culturally relevant books beyond the classics. They will be able to see distinct and diversified situations in this mixed bag of books. My students are noticeably more engaged when reading a variety of different texts, and that includes contemporary novels.
The novels I've chosen will be used in literature circles in my 9th and 10th grade classrooms. They will read their selected book with a small group of peers. They will read for pleasure as well as use skills they've learned throughout the school year to analyze, interpret, and successfully collaborate with others.
