My students are enthusiastic, passionate, & hard-working 1st Graders. Most of them are English Learners and 89% of them are not reading at grade level. This means they must make extremely significant gains in order for them to be ready for 2nd Grade.
With the lack of funding and resources, in addition to the state standards becoming harder each year, more and more students are are not reaching these end-of-the-year grade-level standards. Almost all of my students are low-SES (socioeconomic status) students and qualify for free or reduced lunch. They attend a Title 1, Program Improvement, Dependent Charter School within an urban neighborhood setting.
