The beauty of my classes is their cultural and unique background! My students are immigrants or children of immigrant families. Most are originally from the Caribbean Islands as Haiti, Jamaica, Bahamas, Virgin Islands, Barbados, St. Martin, Grenada, Dominican Republic, just a few to name. Some of my students are also from Mexico, Central and South America and a very small percentage are from the Philippines, Egypt, Bangladesh and Russia. Myself as an immigrant went through many difficulties to adapt to this new home country. Many of my students, do face several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Some have experience traumas in their lives due to natural disasters in their home countries, some have dealt with family related problems and financial obstacles as well. I feel that my students need to have more opportunities, as well as, resources to fulfill their goals in education.
