Students with Autism have many different sensory needs and therefore need a safe space to help organize their systems when needed! I am asking for items to help create a safe and welcoming environment for the students in my autism strand program to be able to help them with this. Timers, noise-cancellation headphones, ball pits and fidget-toys will provide many opportunities for our students to increase adaptive responses leading to the ability to experience new and novel experiences in the future!
A sensory corner is an area of a classroom where students have a time, place and space to organize their sensory system and calm their bodies and minds before re-entering the general classroom.
Currently in our classrooms we do not have the opportunity for our students to use materials to help stimulate and organize their senses outside of their once or twice weekly occupational therapy sessions. Giving them the opportunity to use these items in class will allow for much more access to learning!
