In communities where the money for education is difficult to come by, ensuring laws are adhered to and needs are met creates a budget that is complex and full of compromises. In that world, the academically motivated high school students are often forgotten. Yes, we must take care of the needs of those with special circumstances, whose lives are difficult beyond what most of us can even fathom, but sometimes our students who are diligent and value education get left behind because "those kids are awesome; they'll do well" regardless of the lack of resources. I'd like to show these students--my kids--that they, too are valued. I'd like to make their learning more engaging, and more in-line with what their counterparts in wealthier districts are doing. I am hoping for Chromebooks to make accessing a 21st century curriculum full of on-line resources, document editing with multiple editors in real time, creating and presenting documents when the entire class has the presentation in front of them instead of a poster on an easel a reality for these wonderful, kind, dedicated students.
