In my classroom, students work in small groups all day long. My fourth graders read interesting and challenging texts, explore scientific phenomena, make mathematical discoveries and publish written pieces all while working together. Â
Group work allows students to learn how to give and receive feedback, be leaders, ask for help, and get along with peers. The most powerful resource my students have in their learning is each other.
Working together in the classroom not only allows my students to reach their academic potential, but also gives them a safe space to practice important social skills. Collaborative workspaces give my fourth graders the opportunity to strengthen their skills and abilities to be the best learners they can be.
